Hi All!

What a week it has been!

Finally…the election is over and the incessant ads, that do little more than disparage the opponent, are on hiatus.  Hopefully for much of 2019, but I doubt the campaigners will be able to hold out that long!  Regardless, I will take any reprieve I can get!

As for football, let’s take a minute to ponder week 8 results and catch up a bit with a housekeeping item re: the Riley C. award.

As you may have seen via email, week 8 produced a first for the Fukuma Family Football League.  Congrats to Sarah for recording the first “perfect” week in the history of our league!  14-0, and with it comes a free pass should she run into a problem with Riley C. qualifying between now and the end of the year!

Well done Sarah, and as has been a recurring theme this season…score one for the ladies!

We are a little over half way through the season and I thought it time to provide an update as to the status of Riley C. qualifying.

The Riley C. Barr Award is given to any team owner/s who successfully picks as many or more wins over losses each week of the season.  We generally see between 1 and 3 winners each season, so it is definitely an award that is harder to earn than you may think, and many who have played since our inaugural season are still looking for their first Riley C. award.

Last year’s winners were Danny Walker and Ken Reed.  The awards are made, and we hope to make the presentations this Saturday…better late than never!

So, where do we stand this season?  Through week 9; 12 players have been eliminated and need a perfect week to re-gain entry into the contest.  They are:  Jill, Mats, Sumi, Peggy, Danny, Pami, Uncle James, Angi, Lexi, Sandy, Ken and Johnny.  The last three of whom exited this past week.

Seven players remain in the running, with the aforementioned Sarah an odds on favorite to win the coveted prize given she has a free pass!

Those still Riley C. eligible are:  Sarah, Angelo, BooBoo, Chris Enomoto, Tom, Karen, and yours truly.

These middle weeks of the season tend to be the most challenging, so bring your “A” games and pay particular attention to the weeks with only 13 games.  Good luck and good picking!

As for week 9, what can I say…the Chiefs win again, I lose another Thursday night game, and Dallas – of course – cannot suck enough when I finally decide to pick them to win for the first time this season!  Man, if I only had 20/20 hindsight before the games were played!  🙂

I do have to admit, I love seeing Oakland struggle and watch out for the Chargers, who seem to be getting it done at home and on the road!

As for your assignments from last week…you failed, with one very notable exception.  Miss Angi came through and Ang, for that your Unc thanks you!

Speaking of the nieces, I had some fun text exchanges with each of our nieces over the past few weeks, and would ask everyone to carve a little time from your week and send them each a note…nothing heavy, just a note that you are thinking of them!  They love hearing from home, and I know receiving well wishes from home will bring smiles to their faces!  Be well girls…we love you and are thinking of you often!

Lastly, I don’t know about you, but I am already missing baseball.  League awards are being handed out, and several Rockies have been named; including Arenado and LeMehieu, who were awarded Gold Gloves, Marquez, a Silver Slugger award and I think I saw LeMehieu was named the Defensive Player of the Year at second base.  All deserving awards and as my partner was sure to point out earlier this week, Bud Black is even in the running for NL Manager of the Year.  If he wins, I may have to go “Serena Williams” on those responsible!

No matter, just three months until pitchers and catchers report and we are back in business!  Take me out to the ballgame!!!

Checking the season to date standings as I close out this entry…and what do I see?  I see the Fukuma/Finan’s are once again on top.  It cannot be as easy as they make it look…can it?  Are we over thinking it?  Has Tom actually developed an algorithm for picking winners?  Questions to ponder as you submit your picks this week and let’s get after it…and as the ad says…Just Do It!

Good Luck and Happy 2nd Birthday Logan Paul!

Hugs and love…
