Week 3 is in the books and what a crazy week it was! As we were all hoping, the Rockies bats caught fire and we have a legitimate pennant race in full swing.
At the time of this writing…Thursday morning 9/27, and thanks to 2 wins in a row by the D-Backs and a 6 game winning streak by the Rox…guess who is in first place! Keep it going Rox…let’s do this!
Ok, back to football. Week 3 on paper looked like a piece of cake. A lot of home teams showing as heavy favorites, and on top of that many were playing great football…so what happens, you guessed it, several laid eggs wreaked havoc on our standings. It was a painful week for many, and a survival week for those who just made the requisite 8 win tally to stay in Riley C. contention!
To name a few, how about the Patriots, Jaguars, and Buccaneers? However, non were a worse no-show than the Vikings. How would you have liked to be in that locker room after the game? Buffalo was so bad coming into this game, they actually had a player quit at halftime the week before! Unheard of…
What does it all mean for the FFFL? Well, for one thing, Sandra Reed finds herself on top for the second week in a row, posting a solid 9 wins in a week of upset mania!
What is in the cool-aid on the south side of town? She is one game clear of perennial front runner and man about town, Dr. Ken, and bragging rights clearly go to the X chromosome, at least early on!
Tied at 9 wins with Sandy, and all singing with Johnny Cash to make up a quintet this week are: John, Lexi and JB.
A plethora of players came in at 8 wins each, including Angelo, Chris, Karen and Tom, who found time to go “picking” even in the midst of smashing grapes for a future crop…well done you two…Ken, Peggy, Robyn and Sarah! That is the most players we have ever had in the top two spots and clearly shows this is going to a tight race all season.
You may always check the complete standings, week to date, on the website, and I will summarize the top 3 places in this blog each week. Following week 3, Angelo remains on top, with 31 wins, followed closely by Uncle Tom with 30 wins and in third we have a 7 way tie, all with 28 wins. The players in third are Danny, Chris, JB, Karen, Lexi, Robyn, and Sandy. Still anyone’s to win…so as they used to say in Chicago, pick early and pick often!
On the down side…4 more players exited Riley C. contention this week. Saying goodbye, at least for the moment, are Danny, Pami, Uncle James and Angi, and at 5 wins each, Miss Angi and Jill find themselves checking into the Heartbreak Hotel. While Elvis is happy to see them, I am sure both would love to have their picks back and claim a mulligan.
Speaking of mulligans, how about Tiger winning the Tour Championship? And, winning it with a bit of humility and grace. Kudos to perseverance, drive and determination! Score one for an old guy!
Bye weeks start this week so don’t forget to get those picks in before kickoff!
Have a great week and keep rooting the Rox on to victory! One game at a time…they can do it! Playoff baseball my first season with the team? Let’s hope so!
Hugs and love to all, especially my nieces, who I think of all the time! Know you are sent good thoughts and prayers each and every day and don’t forget to throw your Unc a bone every now and then to let me know how things are going!
PS Late breaking news…Just received word baby Von has joined the world, and at 4 pounds and change is bigger than expected and doing great!
Congratulations to Kay, Easie, Chris and especially Brian and Angelo…proud parents…and from one of the photos I saw this morning, already holding hands with the little man!
God’s blessing on all who made this birth happen! May Von’s life be filled with wonder as a child and nothing but success as an adult. We will have everyone in our thoughts and prayers over the next few months as he continues to develop and grow stronger with each passing day.
Welcome to the family little man! LP…can’t wait to see you, Jace and Von together sometime soon! What a trifecta that will be!
Happy Days everyone…we’ll close this week with one of Paul Fukuma’s favorite words…Grotsky!!!! He readily admitted he did not know what it meant, or how to spell it…but when he said it, you always knew he was having a great time!
“Grotsky” to you Paul…we miss you and know you would be having a ball with little Logan and his mates! Keep shining over them all!
