Hi Everyone…
It is a new week. What fun it is to be able to approach each new week with an opportunity to write about anything I want to write about…
Better yet, to be able to comment on anything I personally find interesting…even though it may not be of much interest to others! Such is the case when I sit down to write our league’s blog.
Ken writes about sports on a daily basis, and does so on subjects that are much more “meaty” than the results of a weekly pick-em contest. But, regardless of the subject…the question is…are the comments relevant and on point as well as entertaining? Opinions vary I am sure, but what Ken wants to achieve is to make people think and to see his words provide a catalyst for change. I, on the other hand, have a less lofty goal. I simply want bring a smile…and on a good day, perhaps even bring each of you to laugh!
As Angelo pointed out early on, this league is about fun. With our leader board tightening each and every week, how could we not find something to smile about every week going forward? Especially considering the fact we are all members of the Fukuma Family! So, without further adieu…let’s re-hash a change that was made in week 7, and see where we landed in week 8!
Last week, a change was made eliminating two features that had been a regular part of this blog. I thought the Ring of Fire and Heartbreak Hotel had gone stale, but of course, the first thing I hear after taking them out of the weekly post is that I chose to eliminate the features on the very week that Pami qualified to sing with Johnny Cash!
Now mind you, she does not particularly care for the Man in Black, but she does want some recognition. and given it is in my best interest to keep her happy, Pami, a special mention to you! Nice job last week! 12-2! That record is almost as awesome as your…(you know I can’t write that..!)
Kudos as well to Jill, Robyn and Sandy who also posted 12 win weeks! The ladies are hot, and if you need more proof…consider this…you must drop 8 spots to find the first male on the week 7 leaderboard! Come on guys, it is time to pick up the pace, we are getting smoked!
All right, on to week 8. Another week, another Chiefs win! This is becoming a habit I can get used to! Well done KC! The Broncos played the Chiefs as well as any team this season, but fell short, and expect changes as the trade deadline approaches. I would say Vance Joseph is on a very short leash, and almost certainly DT will be gone by mid week.
It is not fair, but that is life in the NFL. Is it any different in the NCAA? I don’t think so, and in the case of my next rant, I am leading a charge that pushes for a major overhaul at my Alma mater.
How can you lose to a team that is 0-22 on the road, has not won a game in the last 6, and has spotted you a 31-3 lead? That is a question that can only be answered by the Colorado Buffalo’s…who last week managed to lose their Homecoming game to Oregon State, 41-34 in overtime. In the words of Dick Enberg…OH MY!
Now, do not get me wrong, I will normally allow a little room for a bad break or a difficult schedule, etc. This was not that. This was 3 losses in a row, after the head coach was pounding his chest about beating CSU and Nebraska (and we all know what those wins really were as well as the quality of the teams they were) and piled on by touting the fact that the Buffs were back!
No, Mr. MacIntyre, being “back” means you are winning 10 games a season and playing for the national championship!
Losing is one thing, but when you put yourself out there as being better than you are…it shows a lack of awareness and any time that is the case, it usually indicates it is time for a change. Hopefully the powers that be will avoid another SEC re-tread and go for some home grown talents with true roots to the system.
I would love to see Dave Logan in Boulder, but am tired of people begging him to take the job…and he would be crazy to take it regardless given his current gigs…so DL is out. Eric Biennemy? Chad Brown? Charles Johnson? I haven’t looked into possible home grown replacements, as CU is married to MacIntyre through 2021 contractually – having just given him a 3-year extension, but a few more games like the Oregon State debacle and it will not matter.
As for baseball, it ended this week with the Red Sox buying their way to another championship, beating the other team that was attempting to buy another championship, the Dodgers. If you could somehow find a way to have a 3-way playoff, we could have added the Yankees and had a true Trifecta! Baseball must find a way to establish some semblance of equal footing for the small market teams or it will continue to see these 3 teams battle for the title every season. How great does an A’s vs. Rockies series sound?
OK, enough! I thought this blog was supposed to be an uplifting piece designed to bring the family together? That is where each of you come in. As we say goodbye to October, and hello to November it is time to acknowledge what we are thankful for and how whatever that is makes our lives better. Given that, I want to hear from each of you this week.
Your assignment is easy…answer the following questions:
Why are you thankful?
How does what you are thankful for translate into making your life better?
There are no limits, so think about all the positives that influence who you are and send a few my way. Over the next several weeks, I will incorporate them into to the weekly blog and expand on them with my thoughts and feedback from others as appropriate.
It is an amazing exercise when you take the time to seriously reflect on the people in your lives, how blessed we are to take a minute to give thanks for all we have been given. It certainly changes your mindset, and there is no better time to do so as Thanksgiving approaches. Thanks to one and all for taking a minute to reflect on these questions and I truly hope doing so gives you a boost should you need one!
So until next week…Happy Halloween and good luck and good picking!
